Mary Kubica: The Good Girl

This book popped up on my Amazon recommendations, and for less than £2 I thought it was worth a shot.  The product description said it was one of the top ten General Fiction books of 2014 and compared it to Gone Girl which I love, so I was sold.

A compulsive debut that reveals how, even in the perfect family, nothing is as it seems...
I've been following her for the past few days. I know where she buys her groceries, where she has her dry cleaning done, where she works. I don't know the colour of her eyes or what they look like when they're scared. But I will.
Mia Dennett can't resist a one-night stand with the enigmatic stranger she meets in a bar.
But going home with him might turn out to be the worst mistake of Mia's life...
I am a sucker for a crime-based thriller, so the description sounded right up my street.  The book is composed of a few threads running along side eachother: Mia, a girl who is kidnapped and taken to a cabin in the middle of nowhere; Colin, her captor; Eve, Mia's mother; and Gabe, the detective assigned Mia's case.

Throughout the story you read about fear, heartache, loss, love, hate and a possible case of Stockholm Syndrome.  The plot line and character development kept me interested from start to finish; I understood Mia, felt for Colin, hated the Judge and supported Gabe, however, it was the twist right at the end of the book which kept me thinking about this story for days after I'd finished it.  After reading so many crime books, I'm starting to spot the twist before they happen, but this one caught me off-guard, I didn't see it coming.

A great read for a crime lover - definitely a 'roller coaster read'.
