2014 in Review

After a hard but fantastic year, here are my best bits:

Best Film - Gone Girl
After reading (and loving) the book last summer I was so impressed by this film.  I think David Fincher did such a brilliant job of carrying the story from pages to screen, and I found myself glued to the film even though I know what happened.  If you're into thrillers, give it a shot.
Close calls: Jack Ryan, Shadow Recruit; 22, Jump Street; Divergent; The Other Woman

Best Song - Zedd - Find You ft. Matthew Koma and Miriam Bryant
This song reminds me of some of the best parts of this year.  It always puts a smile on my face and I can't help bopping along.
Close calls: Oliver Heldens - Gecko, Paramore - Aint it Fun, Taylor Swift - Shake It Off

Best Book - Jodi Picoult - Nineteen Minutes
I've read a lot of brilliant books this year, but I physically couldn't put Nineteen Minutes down.  My mum has always said that a good book makes you laugh, cry and think about it after you've finished, which this book definitely did.  Worth a read, and so are the ones below!
Close Calls: Lucie Whitehouse - The Bed I Made; Nick Louth - Bite; Graeme Simsion - The Rosie Project; Robert Galbraith - The Cuckoo's Calling

Best Month - June
I found out that I got a 2:1 in my dissertation, I graduated from university, I went on my last family holiday to the South of France and I celebrated my best friend's 21st birthday.  I had a good month.

Best Trip - Braunston Mill
Although I was lucky enough to go abroad twice this year, I adored the weekend Rob and I spent in this little cottage, we had a wonderful time.  Read my post about it here.

Best TV Show - One Tree Hill
Rob and I have worked our way through all nine seasons this year, and even though I've seen it all before I fell straight back in love with it's story lines and characers - I want to be Quinn and Brooke, I want to know Haley and Lucas, I may be in love with Clay and Julian and Jamie and Logan are too adorable for their own good.
Close Calls - Game of Thrones; How I Met Your Mother; Are You The One?; Big Bang Theory

Best Meal - Lock Fyne, Gunwharf Quays
Since moving to Portsmouth Rob and I have tried to take advantage of my pay checks and the lovely city and eat out as often as possible.  My favourite meal by far was at a restaurant called Loch Fyne - I had delicious mussels in white wine sauce to start, then an entire lobster in garlic butter with delicious French fries.  My mouth is watering just typing about it, mmm.
Close Calls - Coast to Coast, Gunwharf Quays; Thai Elephant, Swansea; Meat and Barrel, Portsmouth

Best Memory - Moving in
I moved to Portsmouth to live with by boyfriend in September, and although I was nervous, it's been the best decision I've ever made.  I love Portsmouth, our flat is perfect and he's an angel to live with.  The weekend we moved in was a mixture of exhaustion and excitement - I loved it :)

I would love to read about your best bits of 2014 - if you have a similar post please link it below, or just let me know in the comments!

  1. Ouu, I enjoyed 22 Jump Street and The Other Woman this year too! HIMYM ended last year, right? STILL DISAPPOINT ABOUT THE ENDING, but I guess the alternate ending was ok too.
