Caring for Coloured Hair

Best High Street Products to Look After and Care For Coloured or Dyed Hair

I've coloured my hair for as long as I can remember: it's been various shades of brown, blonde, black and red.  I love changing my hair style and colour, but the hair dye and heat styling does mean that the condition isn't always perfect. I've tried endless products to keep my hair looking good, but these are the ones that seem to be working lately.

These photos are in chronological order of the last five years; you can see just how much damage I've done to my hair.  Luckily, the condition has never been particularly bad and I think it's because I do try to look after my hair.

When it comes to shampoo and conditioner I'm not too fussy.  I usually choose a colour protect one - my favourite is the Aussie Colour Mate range.  If my hair is feeling particularly dry I'll do a quick hair mask using either the Aussie 3 Minute Miracle or the Mark Hill Oilicious mask.

As soon as I come out the shower I spritz my hair with the VO5 Heat Protect Styling spray to protect it from the heat I use when styling it.  Recently I've been swapping this for the Charles Worthington Colour Shield Spray, as this not only protects from heat styling but also harmful UV rays from the sun.  I also run a pump of the Garnier Ultimate Blends Sleek Perfecor Oil through the mid-lengths to ends of my hair every day to keep it smooth and shiny.

A few extra things I do to limit damage is to use a Tangle Teaser to reduce breakage, use hair bobbles without a metal join to avoid snagging my hair and only wash my hair every 2 or 3 days.  I used to have horrendously oily hair which I washed every day and still seemed to be greasy by the evening, but a touch of dry shampoo and a lot of patience got me there in the end.

Are there any hair-care products you recommend? I love trying new products.
