For years I completely avoided all hint of highlight because I was petrified that it would just emphasise my oily skin, but this year everyone seems to be having a bit of a highlighter moment so I gave it a go and I love it! I do need to apply it sparingly but it adds a healthy glow to my complexion which I adore. These are the products I've been reaching for to add a bit of a glow to my face.
I bought the Anastasia Beverly Hills contour kit a while ago, and the little shimmery shade in the corner was the perfect highlighter to start off with. It's not too shimmery or pigmented and it isn't over the top or glittery - it's hard to do too much with this, which is ideal for someone not use to applying highlighter. This palette also has a matte yellow shade which isnt a highlighter, but does add a healthy light boost when applied under the eyes.
The NARS highlighter in the One Night Stand palette is called Devotee. This is pretty shimmery but not too pigmented so as long as you use a light hand, it's pretty. It does have a certain wet look if you apply too much, so be sparing with this one. I particularly love using this in the inner corner of my eye.
Urban Decay Virgin is an eyeshadow, but it's a beautiful shimmery champagne. I use this pretty much every day on my inner corner, brow bone and cupids bow. I've been known to pat it across my cheekbones too, it's gorgeous!
MAC Stereo Rose looks so bright in the pan, but it doesn't have a very high colour pay off. It is, however, pretty shimmery and glittery which makes it a perfect highlighter. It looks gorgeous paired with a peach or coral blusher.
Lastly is my new favourite - I'd never tried anything from The Balm before but you can't get away from the hype surrounding this product. A few weeks ago I bit the bullet and purchased it and haven't looked back since. It is more pigmented and shimmery than my other highlighters but when I apply it with a fan brush the shimmer is diffused and really pretty. It is a beautiful champagne shade with gold shimmer which catches the light beautifully. The packaging is so cute and I love how minimalist it is - no packaging you don't need here but there's a big mirror inside which is so handy. As you can probably tell - I love it!
What are your highlighter recommendations?
That UD eyeshadow is gorgeous, I need it. I love Mary Lou, it's a great highlighter. I'm a huge fan of Becca highlighters too.

I avoided highlighting for years for the same reason as you, I always thought it would just make my skin look more oily than necessary! I also recently bought theBalm's Mary Lou Manizer and love it. I've aso used the UD shadow for highlighting from my Naked Palette, and the rest of these products look and sound great too :) x

I'm yet to try the Mary Lou but your picture makes it look gorgeous! That's a shame about the MAC not giving much of a pay off. To be fair, I don't think I'd want a red highlight anyway so maybe it's for the best :) Love the post, I'm loving highlighters at the moment as well. Gweni xxxx

The Mary Lou is worth every penny! It's pretty over a coral blush but that's about it!

Great post. I really want the balm Mary Loumanizer but I'm trying to resist. Some great picks. I love Mac Soft and Gentle and Mac Lightscapade mineral skin finishes! They are so pretty on.
