Plaited Top Knot Hair Style

Hair Style Plaited Braided Top Knot Messy Bun Casual

I have a new favourite thing to do in my spare time.  I love to watch hairstyle videos on instragram.  I waste hours watching people braid, curl and style their hair in different ways, and although I definitely am not talented in that area, it's made me a bit braver when experimenting with my hair.

I've never posted any hair styles on my blog before, but I found this braided top knot so easy to create and I love how it looks, so I couldn't resist!

I put my hair in a bun quite often for work, so when I tie my hair up on the weekends I like to do something a little bit different.  Here's a step-by-step guide to how I created this hairstyle.

1. Brush through my hair to make sure there are no tangles
2. Tip my hair upside down so all of my hair falls down towards the floor
3. Take a section of hair about three inches wide from the nape of my neck, and begin french plaiting towards the front of my head, taking hair from my hairline each time
4. I stop plaiting when I get to the point I want my bun to sit, and then I tie the hair with a mini stretchy elastic bobble
5. Scoop up the rest of myhair and tie all of my hair (including the end of the plait) into a high ponytail
6. Pull my ponytail through a hair donut, and use another hair bobble to hold my hair over the donut, creating a bun
7. Pull out pieces of hair around my face and loosen a few pieces of the bun to make it look a bit more relaxed
8. Spritz a bit of hairspray to keep everything in place

Once it's all finished, it's actually really comfortable and I can hardly feel the braid at the back of my head!  I love that it's a little bit different to a normal bun and it feels like a bit of an accomplishment when it looks good!

  4. This is an awesome hairstyle. :)Looks really nice on you! I like braids, but I cannot make nothing really pretty like french braid etc. I would struggle with this hairstyle too for sure.. I just need an every-day hairdresser. :) Yep, that's the solution. :D

    1. Ah thank you! I wouldn't mind a personal hairdresser either, then my arm wouldn't ache holding the hairdryer!

  7. This is such a cute hair style, I never would have thought to do something like this! I love how the braid adds a bit more interest to the average, everyday bun!
