Holiday Make-up

As this post publishes I'm on a plane jetting off to the South of France for a week of sun with my family and boyfriend.  We have visited this part of the world quite a few times now, and we absolutely love it! No matter how many times I've packed and unpacked my make-up after three years at uni, I never get any better at streamlining it - a girl has to have options!  Here's what made the cut this year.

Us oily skinned girls have enough trouble keeping shine at bay in cool British temperatures, so while I'm abroad I need a full army of products to keep me on the right side of glowy - I like to completely mattify my base and add a bit of life back into my complexion with a shimmery blush.

MAC Prep+Prime Skin Refine Zone is the best mattifier I've found so far, and really helps my make up stick around.  Estee Lauder Double Wear Flawless Wear concealer is an all-time essential for me to cover blemishes and dark circles.  I'm choosing to take two foundations this year - Clarins Ever Matte is a light-medium coverage liquid which is quick to apply and matches my tanned skin well.  Bare Minerals Matte foundation is a very light coverage mineral powder which takes a bit more work but the finish is so worth it.  Setting my make-up with a mattifying powder is routine for me, and this Seventeen option is cheap and cheerful with plastic packaging so it's perfect for travelling.

To add a bit of colour to my face Benefit Powda Wowza houses Hoola bronzer and two blushers - Bella Bamba and Coralista giving me the option of a pink or peach cheek.  I just can't leave my Laura Mercier Second Skin Cheek Colour in Lush Nectarine at home - it's my favourite summer time cheek colour for a long lasting healthy flush.

Lastly, setting my base with the Urban Decay De-Slick spray takes away an overly powdery finish while controlling oil production and keeping everything in place.

I tend to keep my eyes pretty minimal on holiday, but I've popped my NARSissist palette in which houses a perfect brow shade, a gorgeous highlight and a range of colours for my to choose from if I fancy a bit of colour on my lids.  YSL Babydoll mascara was a no-brainer for me, my all time favourite mascara had to jump into my make-up bag.  Lastly, my brows will be kept in place by the Maybelline Brow Drama gel.

For my lips, there are options for whatever I fancy - a lightly pigmented gloss from Maybelline, a pale peachy lipstick in the form of MAC Coral Bliss, MAC Impassioned is my bright pink, the Revlon Matte Balm in Elusive is a bold orange hue and of course my new favourite lipstick, Urban Decay Streak.

I'm pretty happy with my picks, and I'm sure I'm sorted for all occassions!  What are your top holiday picks?

  1. I think you did a good job here, I think I took slightly more just for two nights away! I'm quite similar to you as I tend to take quite a lot of face products, streamline what I take for my eyes and go wild with lipsticks - absolutely love the Lipstick Queen Endless Summer range for lipsticks at the moment - perfect for the hot weather!

Hope you have a lovely week away!

  2. Ouu, I'd love to visit the Southern France one day! (And maybe even verge into Monaco) Never seen that Benefit palette before but it looks amazing and is so convenient! I can't believe you need 5 lip colours for a week's visit though...DANG ;) (but a girl's gotta have her options!)

    1. I ended up just taking four... is that more acceptable? It really was beautiful, I've visited Monaco in the past and it really is gorgeous, I recommend a trip there one day! x
