My Travel Essentials

FINALLY! After what seems like forever since booking, today I am off to hop on a plane and enjoy a week of sun, sea, sand and too many cocktails.  Rob and I are off to Marbella for a few days before heading back to Portsmouth ready for the start of a new school term.  Although it isn't far away, I'm a bit of a rubbish traveller so here's what I'll be taking with me to keep me entertained.

A big, secure bag is an absolute essential - I love this Miss Selfridge one because it's huge to fit all my bits and bobs in, and has some zipped compartments inside to keep my valuables safe.  Obviously everyone travelling to a different country needs their passport and some money for a browse in duty free; I like to make sure I have a few pounds for this side and some money for when I land so I'm not stranded anywhere without cash.

I always pop a few things in my bag to keep me entertained while waiting in the airport or on the flight - a good book, a trashy magazine and my iPad loaded with games and music will keep me going.  Because I get travel sick I need to take some Stugeron when I'm flying - they do the trick and make me feel much more normal, but within twenty minutes of taking them I'm fast asleep so one of those comfy travel cushions and an eye mask are a good idea for while the plane is in the air.  A few sweets and some chewing gum are always stashed at the bottom of my bag to avoid popped ears and to satisfy my sweet tooth during the journey.

I like to wear light, comfortable clothing while travelling, and I make sure I have a hoodie to pop on while I'm flying - aeroplanes are always cold!  I make sure my hair is down to fly because I can't stand sleeping with my hair up, but I pop a few bobbles and bobby pins in for when we land because (hopefully) it'll be hot hot hot!

I'm not one of those people who goes for a full skincare routine while flying (usually because I'm asleep) but I do pop a mineral foundation and a mini powder brush in to freshen up my make-up when I land - air conditioning does a great job of making my make-up disappear in-flight.

What are your travel essentials? Anything I've missed?

  1. oh I'm the same! I can never sleep with my hair up, its just too uncomfortable. I like to take a travel pillow so it feels as though I'm sleeping on someone's shoulder haha!
And yes, a BIG STURDY bag is definitely a must!
Hope you're enjoying your summer travel!
