A few weeks ago, Rob and I jumped in the car after work on Friday and headed home for a weekend with our families. After a TV and chinese night at my parents' on Friday night and a loooong lay-in on Saturday morning, my family and I headed to Abergavenny to wander around the stalls in the food festival.
Even though it was September, the weather was gorgeous, and Abergavenny was packed. We paid £12 each for a wristband to let us in everywhere, which seemed expensive to start with, but it was worth every penny - we had a brilliant day. There was every type of stall you could think of to choose from; cocktails, alcoholic drinks, juices, salads, pastas, breads, greek food, burgers, chinese, seafood, ice cream, homemade cakes, meats, hot dogs, chocolates, home decor stalls, arts and crafts and just about everything in between.
There were stalls dotted all across the town, on the streets, in the market and in the grounds of the beautiful ruins. There were people of all ages strolling around the stalls, relaxing on the grass and eating good food - generally having a good time.
When it comes to the food, I've never eaten so many delicious things in my life. I didn't even get a chance to photograph everything because before I could even think about my camera I was tucking in. We had king prawn noodles, soft-shell crab, dressed crab, delicious freshly baked bread, fruity cocktails, garlicky lobster, sweet pure honeycomb, vegetable juice and home-made ice cream. Everything was freshly made right in front of us and tasted incredible.
Abergavenny food festival happens every single year (find the official site here), and although I've never been before I'll definitely be returning - I loved every second! If you go I recommend comfortable shoes, clothes with the stretchiest waistband you own and an empty stomach!
Oh my goodness...my mouth is watering. What lovely pictures!
