I'm a firm believer that no matter how good your makeup is, if you're using rubbish tools to apply it, it will never look it's best. A good makeup brush is key to applying makeup flawlessly and blending products smoothly. I've built up a little collection of brushes, and these are my favourites.
For liquid foundation nothing beats the Real Techniques Expert Face brush. It's the perfect size, shape and density to buff in your base quickly and flawlessly, fitting into every contour of your face. If I'm using a powder foundation, the Sephora Mineral Powder brush is the one for me. Somehow it blends even the most stubborn of powder into an even, flawless finish.
Under my eyes I use the Real Techniques contour brush to seemlessly blend my concealer, and I set it using a yellow power on the Real Techniques setting brush. Both are small enough to fit below my eye, but big enough to get the job done quickly.
For powder, I used to swear by the Real Techniques Powder brush, but it's huge. Lately I prefer to use their blush brush - it's smaller so you can be more precise with your application, and the less dense hairs mean it's easier to avoid looking overly powdery.
For a creamy contouring product the Real Techniques sculpting brush is wonderful, I love the angled densely-packed bristles which fit right into the hollow of my cheekbone. When it comes to a creamy blush nothing stipples better than the Real Techniques Stippling brush. For powder contour or blush I adore the Sephora Angled Blush Brush, although I do have my eye on a very similar one from Zoeva. When it comes to highlighter, I use the Real Techniques fan brush for a light finish.
I use the Zoeva Concealer brush for any spot-concealing needs, and I also use it to pop a bit of brightening concealer on my brow bone. I pair the Zoeva Angled Brush with my Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade for fine hair-like strokes and this tiny Eco Tools angled brush is perfect for all of my gel liner needs.
When it comes to eyes, Zoeva have it pretty much covered with their Rose Gold eye brush set. The brushes are high-quality, super soft, gorgeous and I'm pretty sure they've got all jobs covered. These four are my favourites - soft definer, soft crease, petit crease and pencil. I also love this mini Eco Tools blender for putting a darker shade in my outer corner and the Real Techniques Detailer brush is the perfect size for popping a bit of colour along my lower lash line to create the illusion of thicker lashes.
What are your favourite makeup brushes? I'm always looking for more to add to my collection!
