Jo Nesbo: The Son

I am loving a crime/thriller read lately, and this one is no exception.  I'm embarrassed to admit I was sucked in by the "No. 1 Bestseller" label, but I'm glad I did - this story is a good one.

SONNY’S ON THE RUN
Sonny is a model prisoner. He listens to the confessions of other inmates, and absolves them of their sins.
HE’S BEEN LIED TO HIS WHOLE LIFE
But then one prisoner’s confession changes everything. He knows something about Sonny’s disgraced father.
SONNY WANTS REVENGE
He needs to break out of prison and make those responsible pay for their crimes.
WHATEVER THE COST

I found the story a little tricky to get into at the beginning, but once it got going I loved it.  Sonny is unlike any character I've ever read about before, he's mysterious and troubled, but also boy-like and vulnerable at the same time.  There are a lot of characters, but they're developed beautifully, and as a reader I felt really invested in how their part of the story played out.  There were unexpected twists and turns all of the way through which kept me guessing right to the end.  Such a brilliant story - well worth a read!
