Staying Shine-Free

Best Products for Stopping Shine and Preventing Oil - Primer, Setting Spray, Powder

Thanks to my super oily skin I'm forever on the look out for mattifying products and I've manage to find one or two that actually work!

I've recently finally repurchased the Illamasqua Matte Veil.  It's a primer unlike any I've tried before.  It's really cooling and feels pleasant on the skin, and it quickly dries to a matte finish perfect for applying make up.  Once it's dry you can't even feel it on the skin and it does a great job of keeping the shine away.  It doesn't keep me matte all day, but right now I'm unsure anything would.  This is by far my favourite primer and my go-to at the moment.

If I'm having a particularly oily day I'll reach for the Makeup Forever Mattifying Primer.  This is the most mattifying product I've ever used and it works really well, but it feels matte on the skin which isn't very pleasant.  It feels siliconey and drying on the skin, and as soon as it's dry it feels kind of tight.  You need to be really careful applying this because it has a tendency to pit if you rub it, and any areas you've missed stick out like a sore thumb.  If I have a lot of time on my hands to apply this slowly and perfectly ahead of a long day I'll reach for this, but my recommendation if definitely the Illamasqua offering.

To prime my oily eye lids I've never strayed from Urban Decay Primer Potion, this must be my fourth repurchase of it.  It's easy to apply, stops creasing and the neutral shade creates a perfect base for eye shadow.

For oily skin, any powder it pretty useful.  I find that loose powder is particularly mattifying on my skin, but I am always careful I don't over apply and end up looking cakey.  I usually use loose powder in the house, but I carry a pressed powder around with me in my handbag because it's a LOT less messy!

Lastly, the Urban Decay De-Slick Setting Spray is a god send for oily-skinned girls.  A few spritzes keeps my makeup from sliding around my face, and is really useful is I go a bit overboard with powder - it instantly gets rid of any cakiness.

What are your favourite oil-busting products?
